Description File to Download
English (UK) Thesaurus Installers   Author(s): James (8daysaweek.co.uk) / Paul H (brit-thesaurus.sourceforge.net)

All versions since v1.1.0:
If you change your default language to UK (GB) English you lose your Thesaurus.
Or if you change your default language to UK (GB) English you get an "Americanised" Thesaurus.

There are 2 downloads (one for OOo 1.1.5 & one for OOo 2.x.x).  Both have instructions and an automated installer to put an updated British English (UK / GB) Thesaurus on your computer.

v1.1.5 - there are 2 .exe files in the download, one for "default" installations, the other for "custom" installations to:
"C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org1" (without version number).
Simply choose the one that applies to your OpenOffice.org folder.

In the 1.1.5 UK Thesaurus, the conversion of Americanised English words to UK spellings was done by us.  We're not language experts!

In the 2.x.x UK Thesaurus, the conversion of Americanised English words to UK spellings was done by Paul H.

Please read all the relevant files in the download(s).

Instructions:

  • Download the compressed file. (See top of this page)   Remember where you save it.
  • Extract the contents

- To open .zip files, in WinXP double-click on the file then select 'Extract All Files'.

- If the file is in .7z format, or you're using Win98 or older OS, you need another program like 7-Zip (included on the 8daysaweek CD for Windows).  Install 7-zip (takes only seconds), right-click on the file and choose 7-Zip > Extract Files...

- For Linux use p7zip for .7z files.

  • Read "Read_Me_1st.txt".
  • Run the "installukthesOOoX.exe" file to automatically install the thesaurus.

Please Note: We have removed the previous files as everyone using a 1.1.x version should upgrade to OOo 1.1.5
